Head to one of these sunset spots when the day is just about to end and enjoy that easy-going feeling that only a sunset brings. You might even stumble upon us at one of these wonderful spots! Because that’s where we finish our Craft Beer Tour off – with local craft beer, a bifana and a view of the Douro River.
SUNSET IN PORTO
Sunset in Porto is definitely our favorite color! Here are our Top 7 places to see the sunset in town.
1. Miradouro das Virtudes
As the day begins to approach the end, grab some beers and lupini beans and head to the narrow park along Passeio das Virtudes. This is the spot chosen by many locals and tourists alike for enjoying a cold beer or a refreshing wine while watching the sunset. Drinks aren’t mandatory and lazy book reading or catnapping or just landscape appreciating are all welcome activities to undertake in this beautiful spot. This is the go-to place for a romantic pink-and-orange sunset right on the Douro River.
2. Clérigos Church Tower
Challenge yourself in Porto by climbing the iconic Clérigos Tower for a 360-degree view of the city. A total of 240 steep steps lie between you and the magnificent view at the top. Anyone with the patience and endurance to climb 240 stairs will be rewarded with one of the best sunsets in Porto.

3. Miradouro da Vitória
There are many attractions to visit that can be explored without crowds. Miradouro da Vitória is one of those hidden gems in Porto. From this serene spot, you can admire the changing sky colors and panoramic views of Gaia, port wine cellars, bridges, convent, Palacio da Bolsa, Sé Cathedral, and lots of traditional red roofs. Watch the Douro River flow from afar and fall in love with the city again.

4. Jardim do Palácio de Cristal
For a dose of sunlight and the most stunning views over Porto, Gaia, and the Douro River, visit Jardim do Palácio de Cristal. It is a true paradise just a five-minute walk from the city center. Of all the things that make this garden so unique, we choose to mention its special residents: peacocks who freely roam the garden, displaying their exotic colors. Jardim do Palácio de Cristal is one of the most Instagrammable Gardens in Porto and definitely worth a visit.
5. Matosinhos Beach
For those who like the sunsets at the beach, we recommend Matosinhos Beach. Not everyone knows this but the metro in Porto takes you to the beach. In fact, you can reach the coastal city of Matosinhos in less than half an hour from Trindade station. Sit on one of the terraces of the Edifício Transparente (Transparent Building) and watch the surfers in the sea as the sun disappears over the horizon.

6. Panorâmico
Next stop: Foz do Douro. This is where the Douro River meets the Atlantic Ocean, blending the old Foz neighborhood with the new one. Head to a place called Panorâmico, on the 4th floor of the Hotel Boa-Vista. Oh my, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a few glasses of Port wine along with some cheese. And the view… have we mentioned the view?
7. Arrábida Bridge
You see: when we count our blessings, we count Porto twice. And this is part of the reason why. Look at this view!
